When I first looked at this I thought it might be kind of a gimmick. Cardboard cutouts for Nintendo games. I was completely wrong. This gift absolutely deserves five stars. Here are six points that make it a great toy.First - the price is great. This toy cost only $28 when I bought it on Amazon. My kids and I agreed, after seeing it in action, that this might easily have been a $75 product.Second - This is a "hands on" toy, not just a "screen-time" toy. It will be a joy for kids that like to build. My son spent ALL DAY Christmas assembling the parts. He is 11 and was able to do everything without any help at all. Certainly younger children will need supervision. However, your child may be excited enough about the toy that they might carefully follow the instructions (a level of attention you may not normally see). For upper elementary age children, it is not something that requires parental involvement as a craft. No knives, scissors, or tape required. Everything needed is included.Suggestion ---> There will be LOTS of cardboard scraps when done. prepare for the mess. Throw everything away in a clean trash bag in case you have to do back through it for a small part or sticker.Third - it comes with its own game inside. The game has an airplane flying component, a dune buggy driving component, a submarine component, a spray-paint component, a foot peddle for acceleration, and little key fob component that you slip out and into each of the larger components to activate them.So it's a double layer of fun. The child enjoys building the controller, and then they get to enjoy driving, flying, working with it.Fourth - the game that comes with it, has amazing building instructions. The parts move and fold on the screen so the child can see exactly what to do. There are no paper instructions ... there are next level folding instructions on the screen as the child builds.Fifth - by building what they play with, the child gets to see mechanical functionality "behind the scenes" ... something they wouldn't normally see unless they took a toy apart. So there is a bit of educational/inspirational factor to this.Sixth - Inside, reflector tape helps to activate various functions of the components as they move. The switch handle controllers have small cameras (or infrared sensors) on them, which interact with the reflector tape.... this enables the cardboard components to have the added functionality they do beyond the gyroscopes that are in the Switch controller's handles.I give this toy five solid stars - and believe it is worth more than it is priced at.
