We own a 2012 Honda Civic Si 4-door. We already had the rubber trunk liner from Honda (it includes a raised lip) and it was very good quality. However, the Honda brand rubber floor mats do not have total coverage like the trunk mat does. We initially got the WeatherTech AVM mats from PepBoys, which you trim to fit. I laid these over the original Honda floor mats and cut them exactly to size, but there were 3 problems. 1) The footprint only covered what the original carpet mat covered, no more, so you still had dirt and gravel getting on the carpeted floor pan. 2) Trim-to-fit mats are easy for older cars without the retention hooks. Even on a new Toyota, it is still fairly easy because you just screw a hole and slip the J-hook through. With Honda, they have a unique twist lock retention device. It is basically impossible to manipulate a trim-to-fit mat to be compatible with this. Therefore the trim-to-fit mat would not stay in place and would occasionally get stuck behind the clutch pedal, a major safety issue. 3) The grooves in the trim-to-fit mat appear to be rugged and heavy duty. They appear to be able to handle minor spills or melted snow. However, once you look close, all the grooves run to the outside edges of the mat, and out onto your carpeted floor pan. So basically there is no protection at all. LESS protection than if you left the factory carpeted mats in place (because at least those could absorb a spill with its own carpet - and keep most of it off your carpeted floor pan- because it has a rubber bottom). So we knew after a recent spill of chinese soup in the front driver side, and the subsequent hour I spend taking apart trim panels and lifting carpet, using half a roll of paper towels, spraying Lysol under the carpeted floor pan, and the very frustrating reassembly of the trim panels (Ok, it wasn't THAT bad, but it is slightly difficult to line up the panels perfectly outside in the cold and stooping down by the curb). We also had to leave the windows down for 2.5 days to dry up the moisture (I cleaned tghe floor pan carpeting with a mild detergent) and to air out the smell of the soup. The soup spill was only about 50-60 cc's of fluid, but it soaked the entire front passenger floor pan and even went down the right side toward the B-post. Just imagine if the entire container (around 400 cc's) has spilled! We knew we could not afford to have this happen again. We initially called WeatherTech and asked if we could get a slight discount, such as free shipping on their Digital Fit mats, since we had already spent $50 bucks on the ineffective AVM mats. They refused to offer any type of discount at all. Not even 1% off. So I researched these Husky WeatherBeater mats as a slightly more affordable alternative to WeatherTech. We got the mats from Amazon very fast, and the install was a snap. The mats fit EXACTLY for both front and rear. They look like they came from the factory. They look very sleek and sharp. Additionally, they come with a lifetime warranty, whereas WeatherTech only offers a 3 year warranty. We are very happy with our purchase, and the raised lip (digital fit protection) ensures any future spills will not be a hassle to clean out.
