Both brilliant and bizarre. But you should definitely buy one if you need a simple to use on/off remote switch; say for your hot water or your heating. It offers two switches in either "always on" or "always off" mode. Both can be controlled by text message, which can also give "phone" signal strength and whether the switch positions are on or off. The first switch can also be "toggled" on or off by just ringing the number; and the second can take a text to switch it on, that also tells it to switch off after a period of anything up to 999 minutes (over 16 hours); or the reverse: off then on, if you connect it that way. You can also set the phone numbers from which it should accept commands, and so reject all others.I think each switch will carry a 10 Amp current (do check), but I wouldn't connect more than 8 Amps (1840 Watts at 230v) for continuous use; and I am actually using it switch-on/off four 20 Amp relays which activate my underfloor storage heating. It's built in England and is very well made; even excellent. All that is what makes it brilliant.Connecting up, is where it gets a tad bizarre... fidly and unnecessarily time consuming. Probably because they use a very well made weather proof box that's "off the shelf" and not designed specifically for this switch. (msg to manuf: "Great product, but you need to sort this fellas - it's too easy to damage the GSM aerial connection when wiring up in anything but the most comfortable environment and almost impossible to reach the lower two screw fixing holes once it is wired up". For safety and ease, I wired up all my connections before fixing it in its location.) But just take your care with it, allow 3x as much time as you would expect 45 mins instead of 15 mins, and you'll be fine. One final thing, mine didn't come with a SIM card. So I'm using a UK Vodafone PAYG, which is easy to top-up online, and costs me 5p for every status message the switch sends to my Irish mobile, even though the switch is in France. I'm also able to "schedule" free text messages from my Vodafone Ireland account to this UK SIM and have it activate at a preplanned time. Very very happy with my purchase.
