I bought the ZyXEL GS1900-16 to use with Synology NAS devices that support LACP link aggregation. This switch works with Synology DiskStation Manager 6 beta (DSM 6.0-7274) and was easy to configure for me, and I am a networking novice. Another reviewer mentioned the switch losing its settings when losing power. This seemed to be resolved with a firmware update, which was one of the first things I did when I got this switch. Once updated and configured, I powered off the switch and moved it to a different location. I connected the switch to a battery backup, powered it on, and it still had my settings. I still recommend backing up the configuration because the firmware update did wipe what few settings I had made when I first had powered it on.I found the metal build of the switch solid, though something in mine rattled a bit. Whatever it was, it didn't seem broken free and bouncing around inside. The switch is fanless and does get a little warmer than other switches I own, but none of these are layer two managed switches. This switch will be in a bit of a cramped area with other heat producing equipment so I will be using a fan to vent the entire area. The addition of rack mount brackets were a nice touch, though I do not have mine in a rack. I have had to purchase brackets for other switches in the past, which is a bit of an annoyance. The ZyXEL website lists the following for the warranty: "Limited life-time warranty*(* Warranty terms, service availability, and service response times may vary from country or region to country or region."All in all I am pleased with this switch and the features. All I need now is for it to last a few years.
