I had bought the SMP brand of this because it was considerably less expensive, and there was a reason for that, the other brand lasted a week. Most of my driving is at night and the other brand was always hot to the touch, not alarmingly hot, just in that range of 'this isnt right'. Well the parts store swapped it out for me and the replacement SMP failed in one day. So I bought the ACDelco one. Its been nearly two months, not a single problem, doesnt get hot or anything. Even though ACDelco contracts out to other manufacturers to make their products, they (unlike other brands) at least have a measure of quality control. If you are on the fence about changing this yourself, its a ten minute job tops that only requires one flat screwdriver. The face of your dash is only held in by clips, and that pulls off with ease (do be careful at the bottom by the steering column as those hold a little tighter than the rest. Put the key in and turn it on the on position (but don't start the vehicle), put the gear selector into 1st gear, then tug, pull, pop the face of the dash off. Once you've done that, you can use the flat blade screwdriver to release the clips for the wiring harness and the clips holding it to your face plate. Then snap the new one into place, reattach the wiring harness/plug and push the dash face back into place and you are done. Just remember that you have other items attached to that face plate, such as cargo light, airbag on/off, 4wd selector (electronic only), etc, so don't go yanking it off, you only need to pop it off enough so you can get behind it to replace it.Do: Disconnect the battery (not necessary IMO for this, but better safe than fried)Do: Put vehicle e-brake onDo: Remember to turn the key off and put it back in park.
